Evaluating the Performance of VISNAV for Small UAV Operations
My research interest in Vision-based navigation started at NASA Dryden when I had to work with MATLAB's Image processing toolbox to determine engine/aircraft deflections during a ground test. For my Senior honors thesis I will be writing a paper on Visual Navigation with my advisor, Professor Demoz Gebre-Egziabher. We just ordered an Elphel Camera which is capable of time stamping images with IMU and GPS data. I will be responsible for getting the camera working with the IMU and GPS and then helping with getting it integrated into the UAV. Before it is put on the UAV we will also be taking sample videos to test and tune the VISNAV algorithms. I will be updating the progress of project so if interested please check in periodically.
